NEWS – Opodo add new site features

www.opodo.co.uk/airtools

The future of online booking has arrived for price-conscious and time-poor consumers, as online travel specialist Opodo launches a selection of innovative new air tools:

1.   CombiFlightTM
This tool allows customers to combine two carriers to and from a destination, to get a cheaper airfare wherever possible.

2.   EscapeMap®
This tool provides customers with ideas on where to go.  The customer tells Opodo how much they would like to spend, roughly where they want to travel, what type of trip they would like – and EscapeMap pinpoints suggestions on a map with flight prices.

3.   Opodo CheckFlightTM
These pages are designed for customers who know where they are going. They can see the cheapest flights for their preferred airport and see the best price Opodo offers.  These pages also give local weather and destination news.

4.   MyAirlineTM
Some Opodo customers are loyal to a particular airline.  Opodo has created the ’My Airline’ pages so customers can compare the price of their airline with the average price for that date across all airlines.

5.   Opodo FlexiFlightTM
This feature enables customers to look at cheaper flight options by being flexible by one day either side of the dates provided.

NEWS – Cheapflights Announces UK Site Relaunch

www.cheapflights.co.uk

The UK relaunch in Beta follows the successful full relaunch of its US site www.cheapflights.com in February this year following rigorous stress testing there. Based on the same platform as the US site, the Company will initially open the new site to a small percentage of Cheapflights.co.uk’s viewers.

<!–[if !supportEmptyParas]–>

The Beta launch marks an important stage in Cheapflights’ 12 year history. Since 1996, the Company has always striven to innovate and provide a cutting edge service both to its users and to its travel advertising partners. Cheapflights believe that the very rapid response speed and the major increase in travel data available on the new site will provide viewers with a great user experience starting on the Homepage.

Whats new:

  • Deal filters
  • Easier site navigation
  • An increased library of travel-related proprietary guides
  • Links to external travel information

Going away together

www.wigadoo.com

If your into going away or doing things with your mates you may be interested in this site particularly if all your friends are scattered around the country. A fairly simple concept, Wigadoo lets you propose a “to do idea” and then get your friends to agree on a date and then collect the money. Fairly simple really so here is how we thought about using the site:

  • Your the best man and you’ve been asked to organise the stag do
  • Your not sure where to go so you put a few suggestions in the system
  • You invite everyone to vote on what to do
  • Once you know what to do you vote on a date
  • Then you get everyone to pay up front directly to the site and the money is then credited to your prepaid payment card
  • No more arguments and chasing up payments

The site is fairly simple and easy to use and we quite liked it. They do take a percentage of what is paid into the account but it really is not that much if you want avoid the pain and hassle of chasing people up.

Three stars for Wigadoo.com – a good idea but if they thought up a way to get everyone to pay up on time that would be great.

Get paid for getting your friends a job

www.zubka.com

When we were first told about online recruitment consultancy Zubka we initially thought it was yet another online recruitment site but there is something unique, and to be honest brilliant about the site. So here goes why.

If you have ever been asked to recommend someone for a job you generally understand that there is no reward but in reality that is all recruitment companies do – they select a potential candidate, sometimes pre interview them and then put them forward. If the candidate gets selected they get a huge fee and everyone is happy. In reality there is a problem – most recruiters pitch loads of people they do not have time to interview to get a job.

With Zubka this is where you come in – the process is simple – You recommend a friend and if they get the job you get the reward. It may be that you start looking at your friends differently and even suggest that they go for that “new job” even though they are in line for a promotion at their existing place.

So what could it be worth – well some of the sums listed are pretty good – up to £1600 in some cases and if the job is really well paid a great deal more. You could say this is a business networking site – you make a recommendation and if that person is right you get a little reward.

To be honest we have started to look at everyone we know in a slightly different way and we were wondering if there is anyone out there looking for a new editor …….. (or writer!!!)

A good four star site if not close to five. If you’ve used the site and had a pay out let us know …. We will upgrade the rating but it is up to you.

Swap shop for kids

www.jumbleworld.com

Having taken a quick look around the site for this review we thought it would be fair to say at the start it was not for us but that does not mean that it is not a good idea with a little fine-tuning would be great.

Jumbleworld is obviously trying to compete with ebay on a number of levels and we thought the best part of the site was going to be the SWAP function. In reality most of the items listed on the site are for sale and it requires accounts and all sorts to complete a transaction.

As an eBay competitor it is very limited but on the plus side it has a number of controls in place that mean that children are not giving away personal details and allows parents a certain amount of control over what is happening.

Overall some of the concepts of the site are really good – it could be developed into a great swap shop concept. Maybe in the next few months as more people use the site it will get better.

We’re giving the site two stars at the moment – If you are a USER please let us know what you think of the site by posting a comment.
