The Bright Way to Start a Career

Review of the Bright NetworkFor many students leaving university this year the job market will be just that little bit more difficult and they will have to go that extra mile to secure the position they really want. When we were told about Bright Network, a new social network for graduate job seekers, we therefore thought we’d better put together a review that may just assist some of our graduate readers (or parents).

About The Website
The aim of Bright Network is to match graduates and companies more efficiently than just a normal recruitment website. The site allows both sides to engage with each other and learn more as well as promoting new events or seminars. Unlike other social networks it is not aimed at being a “what I did last night” site but instead allows users to promote themselcves to key employers as well as see opportunities as they arise.

Employers can list vacancies and also search the graduates on the site to match their requirements allowing them to pre screen and also find the best fit for their business.

What We Think
With a difficult job market at the moment we think Bright Network is a very good idea. It helps graduates find employment opportunities that may not be on other recruitment sites and helps employers reduce the time they spend weeding out non suitable candidates.

If you are a graduate looking for a first step on the career ladder we’d suggest you get social with Bright Network

Ferret out the best hotel room

Roomguide reviewRoomguide has been around for a few years and they are one of the better hotel search engines on the Internet today and they have recently launched their new Room Ferret Service so we thought we should put it to the test and write a review.

About The Website
Basically the Roomguide is like many other hotel search sites but their recently added Ferret service goes a little bit more into what you are actually looking for rather than the classic “price based search”. We spent about 10 minutes using the service on a number of destinations and it was able to point us in the direction of some hotels we already knew so it is obviously casting its net quite wide to come back with recommendations.

What We Think
Generally speaking we like the Roomguide website at it is very easy to use and returns results quickly. The Ferret service is still under development but we liked the way it pointed at some nice hotels that were not just the same as every other search engine. All in all a very useful website if you are looking for a city break holiday or travelling on business. We’d suggest if you are looking for a hotel room to visit their website.

The Insider Guide to London Dining

Finding somewhere to eat has always been a real pain, particularly in London, as there is so much choice and reviews are often the result of good PR rather than a good dining experience. That’s why when we were told about a new website, Pageonelondon.com which aims to provide an independent well researched guide to dinning out in London, we thought we would put together a website review for them.

About The Website
Page One is an insider’s guide to about 100 London restaurants which they claim are the only ones really worth knowing. The site is continuously up-dated with reviews of the best restaurants in a variety of categories including Italian, Japanese, British, Indian & Chinese, French. At an annual subscription price of £100 users know that the reviews are impartial and the places to eat in London are selected on merit which should help reduce the amount of time wasted and disappointment searching for somewhere to go.

What We Think
The site is very well designed and easy to navigate. All the reviews are well written and clearly point out the best bits about each of the restaurants. We think that PageoneLondon will probably have a niche following of real foodies who want the inside scoop around London.

UKWaspwatch Hits Twitter

UK Wasp Watch WebsiteWe’ve all so far had a pretty miserable Summer but you never know we could be in for a glorious September and in case we are you may just want to take a look at UKWaspwatch – a site that links to Twitter that allows Tweeters to report wasp activity. If your worried about wasps or insects you may find the website review useful.

About The Site
UKWaspwatch has been set up by Rentokill as they obviously want to people to give them a call if they have a wasps nest problem and the site has an interactive map that shows where people have tweeted from. Users get to rate the severity of wasp activity on a grading scale of 1 -10 so it may be very useful if you are heading outdoors. In addition the site has some very good advice on dealing with wasps and other insects.

What We Think
We were very worried to see that someone was being attacked by a 20ft wasp in Manchester according to one Tweeter so maybe some users aren’t taking it as seriously as they should but all in all the site gets across a clear message of “get the experts in”.

If you are looking for more information on wasps and want to know how to Tweet your experiences take a look at UKWaspwatch.

The Place for Middle Eastern Art

Mica Gallery The Home of Islamic ArtIf you have ever been to the Middle East you will know that both the scenery and artwork can be stunning. Here at What’s Good On The Web we’ve been asked to review the website of a London Gallery that specialises in Islamic Art. Of course we can’t review the works themselves but we can tell you a little bit more about MicaGallery.

About The Site
MicaGallery is a well laid out website with some very easy to use navigation, if you know the artist you are looking for a simple click to find their name is all it takes but there are other search features for those of us who just want to browse. We initially used the “price” function (Yes, I know we are always looking for a cheap deal!!!) and the site displays the artwork depending on price – you can zoom in to view the pieces and if you want to buy can add it to your shopping cart.

What We Think
For a niche market MicaGallery is a great show piece and if you like the types of work as we do we’d suggest that you take a look at their site. We hope you liked our review.

A Book Readers Paradise

Jungla Website Review If you are like us finding the right book to read usually involves a trip to the local book shop or library and flicking through the latest best sellers to see if something captures our attention? Reading the rather biased opinions in the natuional newspapers used to be the only other option but we’ve come across a great blog that does all the flicking for you so that why we thought we’d put together a review of Jungla.

About The Site
Jungla isn’t just a place for all the latest best sellers by any means. The website is jam packed with reviews of all types of books from the classics right up to the latest Andy McNab. All the reviews are impartial and aim to give a quick oversight without ruining the plot and one of the best things we liked about the website is that it doesn’t try to force a sale on you, it’s purely for reference.

What We Think
If you are off on holiday in the next few weeks or looking for a book for someone next Christmas we’d strongly recommend the Jungla Website. It’s impartial, informative and to be hionest a good read. For all the best book reviews don’t forget to visit Jungla
