Become The Next Hitman (or Her)

For many people the fact that the X Factor is now over for yet another year will be a great relief but there are thousands of bands that struggle to get noticed in the music industry who don’t make it to the show so there is now a brand new website called MyMajorCompany.com that hopes to give bands a chance and at the same time allow the general public to invest in them for success.

The label operates by signing acts through a traditional A&R selection process, before placing a sample of their music on the website.  The acts are then promoted to music fans who ultimately decide whether the act will raise the £100,000 necessary to take things to the next level. Fans can choose to invest anything from £10 to £1,000 in the artists they like and then get a percentage of the profits once the performer has been launched. Since its launch the website has already secured over £300,000 of fan investment across the launch roster.

We will be taking a closer look at the website in a few weeks time but for now if you want to be the next Pete Waterman this may be the place to start.

Iknow-UK gets facelift

With the staycation likely to be on the agenda for most families in 2011, iknow-uk, the regional tourism and accommodation directory has just completed a £55,000 facelift to their websites including improving site navigation, simplifying online bookings and adding more details on the accommodation they list.

The upgrades are designed to help make planning a UK holiday much easier as well as finding out more about what is available in the area from shopping to nights out. According to the company the upgrades have increased site visitors by over 65% in just a few days and will set them on course to beat last year’s impressive turnover of £2.2 million.

Marcus Simmons, managing director at iknow-uk, said:  “It’s exciting to start the New Year with a new look, and we’re really pleased with the results of our design overhaul.  Feedback we’ve received so far is great, and we’ve been able to further improve the user-experience by making our regional websites much clearer and more straight-forward.

Gifts Go Mobile

Online gift website, Thegiftexperience.co.uk, have launched a brand new mobile phone website especially designed for custonmers using smartphones. The launch follows an increase in the past year of over 900% of people using their phone to check out the webstore.

Developed in conjunction with ecommerce specialists, Chapter Eight the new mobile website makes it much easier for customers to buy gifts whilst they are on the move.

Trevor Pervin, MD at The Gift Experience comments, “The launch of the mobile site highlights our commitment to providing our customers with the best possible service. We’ve seen a 700% increase in revenue through mobile devices, this year compared to last, so it was important for Chapter Eight to capture all the features of our website on this new platform, while still retaining all the important aesthetic elements of the brand.”

Keep the pounds off on your next holiday

A new website has been launched to get help stressed out and unhealthy Brits on their holidays by encouraging them to be more active when they are away. Called Health and Fitness Travel they offer a varied collection of holidays from all inclusive health and fitness retreats in exotic locations to boot camp, spa, detox, yoga, golf, tennis and ski holidays in Europe and other destinations around the world.

Commenting on the launch of the new business Paul Joseph, Director of Health and Fitness Travel said “The culture of society is growing in self-awareness and we are becoming more conscious of the very limited time we have in our lives to look after ourselves. Holidays that promote discipline in key areas of health and fitness gradually change our attitudes in promoting a healthier lifestyle for us”.

“The average person puts on 4 pounds of weight after every inactive holiday*, meaning investing more time in exercise when they return home which is counterproductive. By hand picking the finest resorts around the world and tailor-making individual programs, we offer a one-stop shop for everyone wanting a perfect health and fitness experience on their travels”.

We will be taking a closer look at the website in a few weeks so look at for the review but in the meantime if you are looking for something to keep you active on your next holiday take a look at Healthandfitnesstravel.com

Search Engine Predictions for 2011

For marketeers both natural and paid search are now the most important factors in their marketing communications programme so leading online marketing specialist Greenlight has put together a briefing on what is likely to happen online in 2011. The full report is available online on their website but here are some of the highlights:

  1. Google and Bing will offer app search – with millions of us using smartphones the search engines will want to start pointing out relevant apps for download based on search terms.
  2. Display advertising will mirror search – marketers can expect more sophistication, control and results from a new era of display advertising.
  3. Google v Bing – It is likely that competition will hot up in 2011 with each of them introducing more functions and features to out smart the other
  4. Duplicate content will be penalised – we all know that Google doesn’t like duplicate content but it is likely they will start penalising sites that do too much
