People are always searching for new ways to save money here and there and looking to experience new things within their local area so we thought we would put together a review of a highly rated deal comparison website known as LoveOnlineDeals.com that is exclusively available to the UK.

About the website.

LoveOnlineDeals.com describes itself as a completely unique and free to use web based service designed specifically to enable deal hungry users (such as our self) to keep an easy track on all the great group buying daily deals on offer to them within their city or location of choice. We noticed that most deals featured on the site have on average savings between 50-90% on a whole range of activities within the health, food, leisure and fashion industries.

Navigating throughout the site as well is beyond user friendly, with a nice simple layout, straight to the point and it contains no extra added promotional hype forcing you to buy or try the deals. One more use full point that should be noted is that the website features a daily email feature, where you can sign up to your location and be sent the deals available to you on a daily basis which can be enjoyed reviewing over your morning coffee.

What we thought.

Group buying is very popular and can get users some really great deals. Compared to many of their competitors we quite like this site as it tries to stay on track without loads of extra advertising. They are obviously keen to get you to sign up but as its free to do so we don’t see any harm in getting an email a day from them. If you are looking for some good regional deals why not have a look at the website and see what you think.

For many people renting somewhere to live is the only option, particularly if they are taking a job in a new city or town and don’t know how it will go so we thought we’d put together a review of one of the best flatmate and house share websites available, called Spareroom.co.uk we’ve taken a bit of time to look at the site and also checked out feedback from users.

About The Website

Spareroom has been specifically designed to put renters in touch with each other, the one thing you notice about the site is that it is about people rather than places which we liked. Users can either advertise a room or post a room request by simply registering on the site. The profiles for each let you set preferences such as pets etc as well as tell accommodation hunters what the costs are.

Searching the website is really easy and you can do it without registering (which is free anyway!!), just put in what you are looking for and where and hey presto the right sort of places come up.

The added advantage to using the site rather than just going to a traditional letting agency is that it gives you a chance to check out your potential housemates.

What We Thought

We liked the spareroom.co.uk website as it was very easy to use and has thousands (if not millions of users) so the choice is endless. The searches are pretty easy to use and the amount of information you can access is spot on which means no more endless wandering from rental agent to rental agent. We’ve made the website one of top rated and it’s the first for 2011 !!!

If you are looking for a new place to live and want to hook up with people who share your ideals take a look at spareroom.co.uk.

No, well we didn’t either and there are loads of times we’ve been stuck in a rather cramped tube between stations so we thought we’d give a quick mention to a website that aims to get tube users money back. Called Mytubewaslate.com we think it’s a great idea and have even added it to our Top Rated Websites for this month.

About The Website
The first thing you need to know about Mytubewaslate.com is that it is totally free to use and will actually save you a small fortune. If you are a regular Tube user you will be aware that from time to time (cough) tubes are late and can mean that you miss a meeting or even get into trouble at work so the website has brought in a very easy to use process to claim back the cost of your journey if you use an Oyster card or season ticket so here is how it works.

Simply register for free on the Website and then next time you are on the Tube check how long your journey should take (if it is on time)you will then know for the future if the journey is running late and if you can make a claim. All you then do is every time the Tube is late simply go to Mytubewaslate.com and sign in and their system will print you out the claim form to make a claim, or even better it will submit the form online for you. As an added bonus the site also emails you every time your journey is delayed so even if you forget to check on the day they give you a reminder.

What We Think
We think Mytubewaslate.com is a brilliant idea, not only does it help passengers claim back money for poor service but it will encourage Transport For London to get it’s act into gear. There is absolutely no effort on the users part, simply register and log on and then post off the claim form or submit it online (To a freepost address as well !!!).

If you are fed up with late tubes check out Mytubewaslate.com and claim back a small fortune.

Here at What’s Good On The Web we get asked to review a number of websites that don’t really make the grade so we thought it might be a good idea to point our readers towards a website design company that is developing websites for those on a limited budget.

Called Graftweb.co.uk these guys are offering to design and build new websites for customers based on a barter system, so not necessarily cash, and we’ve done a little bit more digging for you.

Basically what Graftweb.co.uk is offering to do is build websites based on open source content management systems (or SEO or online PR services) and in return customers can offer to trade anything they have, this can include anything from office space through to advertising and promotional opportunities.

We talked through the process with Jay McGregor of Graftweb and he explained the process in a bit more detail.

“What we are doing is giving companies the opportunity to swap things they already have for something they need – a new website. Tight budgets mean that often a new website is put on hold when it is actually one of the most important marketing and sales tools for the company,” said Jay.

“Working with Graftweb means that companies can access everything from website design through to online PR that generate sales without having to stump up cash.”

Graftweb will pretty much take anything in exchange for a new website or any of their other services and according to Jay the list is endless so we’d recommend any of our readers who need a new website but possibly can’t afford it at the moment to have a chat with the team at Graftweb.co.uk. Because we think their idea is a good one, especially in these economic times, we’ve added them to our top rated list.

Going for a walk does not mean you have to get out the walking boots and rucksack. For may who live in towns and cities throughout the UK there are loads of parks or just interesting architecture to admire so we’ve decide to put together a review of Walkit.com, an urban walking route planner.

About The Website
There are loads of uses of Walkit.com, whether you are just planning a quick way to walk to your next meeting in the city when there is a tube strike or want a more leisurely stroll around town. The site itself is very simple to use, you just select the town or city nearest to you and then enter the postcodes to a from. There are a number of selections you can make including if you want a direct or less busy route and the website gives you an easy to follow breakdown of the route.

That’s Google Maps! we hear you say, well no compared to Google the Walkit.com site provides a much better breakdown of the route as well as options to choose and also you can plan a circular route if you want to as well as seeing a profile of the route to see if it is hilly or not.

In addition to the route planner they have also added a feature where users can share routes they plan which is ideal if you are planning a walk with a group of friends.

What We Think
We really liked the way Walkit.com gives quite a bit of flexibility to the route plans as well as provides a very detailed breakdown of the walk. We’re adding Walkit.com to our top rated list for this month as we think it is user friendly and an ideal way to plan walking routes with ease.

For more information please take a look at Walkit.com

For anyone who shops online one of the most frustrating things can be you buy something and then just a few days later it comes down in price so we’ve put together a review of a brand new website called Salewhale.co.uk that monitors any website for price changes and then alerts you when the price comes down.

About The Website
For anyone who is an ebay user they will be familiar with price watching but for those who aren’t its basically monitoring a price of something for sale online and when it changes to the amount you want to pay a system alerts you. Salewhale.co.uk has been set up to monitor all websites rather than just ebay and works as follows. You enter the web address of the product you want to follow – it could be say a jumper on Next – you tell the system the current price and then it watches out for price reductions. Whenever the product drops by more than 10% of the initial price the system emails you saving a small fortune.

We checked out Salewhale on a few things that we knew were dropping in price over the next few days and found the system pretty accurate. You don’t pay anything to use the service and all they ask is that you click on the link they send you rather than go direct to the sellers website as they make a small commission (it doesn’t cost you anything).

What We Think
We really liked salewhale.co.uk and have decided to add it to our top rated list for the month. It’s ideal for all those non essential purchases or expensive things that you can wait a little time for and as the service is totally free there is no reason not to use it.

If you are looking to bag a bargain or two then we suggest you have a look at salewhale.co.uk

To be honest I am hopeless and choosing the right gift for people. It does not matter if it is for a birthday, Christmas or even anniversary I generally get the wrong thing so having been told about 15gifts.com, a brand new website that takes the guesswork out of choosing a gift we’ve decided to put together a review of the site.

About The Website
For a start 15gifts.com is not just a shopping website, it’s a completely different concept based on intelligently looking at your requirements, the person you are buying for and then giving you 15 options, hence the name 15gifts.com.

When you first go to the website there is a big “start” button to click on and then you just answer the questions the system asks you such as age, what is the gift for etc and then it performs a search based on the criteria. The team behind 15gifts.com have put a great deal of effort into the gifts that they list so it ensures that only the right things are presented to you, the user.

What We Think
We think 15gifts.com is going to be a lifesaver for men. Let’s be honest we don’t have a great deal of imagination when it comes to buying presents and more often than not get totally the wrong thing. Using the website saves ages trawling through all the usual shopping sites and also enables you to find things that are slightly more personal.

We’ve added 15gifts.com to our Top Rated sites for this month as we think it’s that good especially as they have also a sign in page that lets you link it to your profile and friends on facebook and can store selected people profiles for the future.

If you want help picking the right gift then look no further than 15gifts.com

We all like things for free and one of the best websites we’ve seen that lists all the offers is called magicfreebiesuk.co.uk. We actually know some of the people who run it so we that’s why we’ve put together a quick review of their website for all our readers.

About The Website
You all probably know one or two freebies websites but generally speaking they are aimed more at offering discounts than actual freestuff which is where magicfreebiesuk.co.uk beats the competition hands down. The team there basically hunt down all the offers and discounts as well as who is offering free samples entry etc and then list them on the site. In addition they have a really good relationship with some major companies so are able to get some exclusive free things such as product samples and I do know they were inundated with free bags of sweets a while ago.

The site is really easy to use and there is no registration to see the freebies (although you can sign up for the daily email which is pretty good) – you simply go to the site and check out whats on offer. In addition if you want to you can flick back and find previous offers, many of which are still live.

What We Think
Magicfreebiesuk.co.uk is a really good website for anyone who wants to get their hands on free samples, discounts or special offers and to be honest you can save a small fortune using the site. We’ve added them to our top rated list we think they are that good.

If you are interested in getting some free samples or special offers take a look at magicfreebiesuk.co.uk for more information.

Here at What’s Good On The Web we’ve recently come across a free application that saves all your passwords securely and means that once you have entered them you never have to do so again which we thought we would do a little review of for all our readers. Called Lastpass.com we think the site has to be top of anyone’s list for downloads.

About The Website
Lastpass is a very simple application and website to understand. Basically you download a small file to your home (or work) computer and they take you through a set up process. Once you have set it up you simply start logging in to sites as you normally would but as you do so Lastpass detects that you are using a login and asks you if you want it to remember the site. When you say yes it stores the password on the computer.

Next time you visit the site with a login Lastpass automatically fills in the login details and that’s it, really simple and best of all its totally secure. The other advantage is that if you are away from your desk and want to log into a site you can do so by just visiting lastpass.com, signing in and then clicking on the site you want to log into.

There are loads of additional functions including setting up a profile which means if you have to add an address to register you can do so using the site.

What We Think
Having used Lastpass.com for a while now we think it is pretty much one of the best free applications on the Internet. If you are like us with hundreds of passwords knocking around it can save you ages looking them up or requesting reminders so we think everyone should give this a go especially as it is secure therefore we’ve added it to our top rated list for the month.

If you want to save time with your passwords in the future take a look at lastpass.com

If you have ever had a personal training session or attended classes at your local gym you will know that with someone giving you encouragement to keep going or push yourself a little bit more makes you work harder. Many trainers use music as a key part of the training programme as it sets the right tempo and gives people something to follow so when we were told about Audiofuel.co.uk we thought we’d put together a quick review of their website for our readers.

About The Website
Audiofuel.co.uk is a very simple concept that is used by both individuals and professional athletes. They create and sell pre developed music mixes that are based on your training requirements (i.e. running speed) that also incorporate a training narrative as the track goes on. Now you may think that you can develop your own mix to work out to but the problem with that is what you may select tracks that have rhythm changes that can put you off your stride and also any motivation is just your own will power.

We downloaded the sample track from the Audiofuel.co.uk website and found that it worked very well – the music is set at the right pace depending on your requirements and the motivational narrative although present is not intrusive.

As you would expect there is a cost behind the tracks (from £6) which is more than you would pay for downloading a few MP3′s but they also have a number of packs that you can download which are considerably cheaper and if you like the music but don’t want the training voice over you can download them.

What We Think
Having tried the sample track from Audiofuel.co.uk we found it very useful as a fitness training tool. Yes, the cost may put some people off but if you are thinking of piling in to those mince pies this Christmas it may be an idea to get ahead of the January rush and start your training early !!!

We’re adding this to our Top Rated Websites for the month as we think the idea is very well thought out and puts professional training on your MP3 player so if you like the idea please take a look at audiofuel.co.uk.

If you are anything like us the thought of getting on a train horrifies us – costs seem to be continually on the up and there was even an article I saw recently that said the train from Manchester to London is now more expensive mile for mile than Concorde …. and that’s standard class not even first.

So when we heard about a brand new website that aims to help consumers find the best deal ticket from all the train operators (without standing at the station or guessing the best time to log on) we thought we should do a quick review of it so here it is, Quno.com

About The Website
For anyone who has already used a train booking website the format of Quno will be very familiar – you basically enter the where from and where to, date of travel and number of passengers and the website does the rest.

This is then where it breaks from the norm and instead of just offering the standard tickets it presents the cheapest tickets available on that date at various times along with options, in addition there is a neat little slider that enables you to change the travel time and select the ticket you want and if you want to go on a different day you just change it, users don’t have to re-enter all there travel details …. simple.

We tested it against the train companies own websites and the prices were the same so there is no added cost it’s just the site is much simpler to use and you only go to one website to get a variety of options.

What We Think
To be honest we think Quno.com is pretty much what train users have been missing – the site is simple to use and follow and we’re putting it on our top rated list for October we think it’s that good ….. no more frustrating hours on endless websites to get the best train ticket deal ever again.

Check out quno.com for more information on train times and to buy your tickets the easy way.

There are plenty of websites aimed at offering UK Internet users the chance to download or listen to music online but most cater for popular music choices such as the charts so when we heard about Bachtrack.com we thought we should do a review of their website. The site is aimed at classical music fans and covers everything all in one place.

About The Website
Bachtrack.com aims to bring the classical music world all under one roof with everything from concerts and events happening near you through to the ability to watch concerts on line live at your PC. The site itself is well designed and the content has been well thought out and even includes listing for events throughout the world – you simply select the country and you get the information you want.

What We Think
Here at What’s Good On The Web we really enjoyed our time on the Bachtrack.com website. It is obviously not to everyone’s taste but for people who want to experience and understand more about the music this website pretty much has it all. One of the things we really did like was when you search for a composer the site not only lists the CDs available but also where you can see the pieces performed live.

Bachtrack.com is definitely a site for classical music lovers so we’re also going to add it to our top rated list for October we think it’s that good.

Unlike the UK people in the USA are very used to using coupons and offers to get significant discounts for both on and offline shopping so when we heard that the leading American online coupons provider, offers.com was launching over here we thought we better do a review of their site for our readers – the web address is www.uk.offers.com

About The Website
For those people who already use discount sites the layout and functionality of the uk.offers.com site will be very familiar although they have a number of search and find options which we think makes them slightly different.

As a user you can select offers and discounts based on either the sort of offer you want (e.g. Travel) or alternatively select on the type of offer (e.g. free delivery or discount) This makes the site very easy to navigate around and find the best offer or coupon to use. The other thing that is slightly different about the site is that all the offers are available to a casual site visitor, they don’t require you to register first which we like, and they do have a weekly email so you can find out the latest deals directly to your in box.

What We Think
Overall we generally liked the uk.offers.com website as it was easy to use and doesn’t bombard users with pop up adverts, you go online and find the offer you want pretty quickly. Our best advice is that if you are looking to shop online in the future take a look at the site and see what they have – you may find that by using one of their smaller offer partners you make some significant money savings. As this is US owned and operated site we expect to see it becoming very popular as they bring discount shopping to the masses.

If you are interested in saving money or getting some great discounts we suggest you visit uk.offers.com for more information.

The service, which has launched for the London region initially, is not just about connecting with existing friends but also for connecting with new people.

About the Website
As you would expect Geomium has gone live with mobile apps straight away meaning that everything is in the palm of your hand – it brings together a number of other location based social networking tools that have been launched by the major players recently (We don’t want to name them as they get plugged all the time).

Basically once you are logged into the site you can view things on a map or as a feed which shows things like events, discount deals locally, friends etc – by putting all these together users basically get everything they need – who is where and what are they doing.

What We Think
Because everyone is starting to push location based social networking we thought this may just be an “also ran” trying to compete with the big guys but in fact we found it very good so we are adding it to our top rated list for October – we know it’s only available in London at the moment but we are pretty sure that when the service extends it’s going to be picked up rapidly.

For more about location based social networking and to sign up visit Geomium.com

One of our favourite hobbies in the office is food, from where to get your lunch to what will you be eating tonight, so when we were told about a really good website that from celebrity chef Simon Rimmer we thought it would be well worth putting together a review of eatthechef.com.

About The Website
Unlike many recipe or celebrity chef websites the first thing you notice about this one is that it is FREE … yippee no need to pay to subscribe. The site hosts video demonstrations of how to make each of the recipes and is subdivided into different sections from breakfast through to snacks so it is very easy to navigate around. One of the unique features about the site is that you can also upload your own recipes so if you are a budding celebrity chef you get to share your hints and tips with others on screen.

A feature which we thought was very useful was that once you have registered for free you can store the recipes you have watched and like in your “Kitchen” this means you get an easy to use reference point for later and can also comment on the recipes once you have given them a go.

What We Think
We thought eatthechef.com was a very good website as it was easy to use and the free registration process was very simple. The way the site displays video demonstrations means that even if you are a novice cook or just looking for something to impress your guests with anyone can have a go at the recipes On the downside spend more than ten minutes on the site and you are starving as some of the free recipes are simply delicious. Here at What’s Good On The Web we think this site just might have the making of a very good foodie social network – it has plenty of content and allows user interactivity throughout.

If you’ve got some time and are looking for some really good quality recipes we would suggest you visit eatcthechef.com and we’ve also added it to our top rated sites for this month.

About The Website
When you first visit greatlocaloffers.co.uk you are asked to register and put in your postcode. Don’t be put off by this as this enables them to work out the offers in your area that are most suitable so that they can display them on the screen or on the weekly email they send out. Many of the offers are non exclusive but we found the site very useful last weekend as the offers were displayed in a very neat format with the distance to where the offer was available so we were able to get a discount on some wine.

What We Think
The site is very easy to use which is always a bonus as we see so many sites that are unnecessarily complex. As the site displays local offers we’ve put them on our top rated list for this month and we suggest you visit greatlocaloffers.co.uk for some good deals.

There are numerous websites out there offering “good” financial advice but when you dig a little deeper you find that many of them are just looking to try and get you to sign up to the latest credit card or loan. When we came across Lovemoney we therefore thought it may be useful to dig a little deeper, see what they had to offer, and put together a review of the site as they are aiming to provide advice rather than sell more debt..

About The Website
The first thing you notice about Lovemoney is that the site asks you to register to access all the information and guides. Once you do it enables you to set personal goals and targets but more importantly does not try a flog you a credit card. We spent about an hour on the site looking over different areas and found the information and guides really useful. In addition to this users of the site are able to post their own hints and tips in each of the different sections.

What We Think
We really liked the site as it gives some very practical advice on managing your personal finances as well as displaying things in a very user friendly way. The numerous features mean that you can pick up advice on things you hadn’t even thought about from the best way to do your shopping through to some very nice “Frugal Recipes”.

We’d recommend anyone to take a look at the Lovemoney site if they want to understand and develop their own moneysaving habits so that’s why we’ve added it to this month’s top rated sites.

We all know our local resturants but if you are like us we sometimes like to try somewhere a little different so when we were told about TopTable, a UK wide resturant search engine, we thought it may be worth putting together a quick review of their website as although it is well established not everyone knows about it.

About The Website
The concept behind toptable is very simple and easy to use, as a user you go to the site and enter the location and date that you want to go out for a meal. The system then presents you a list of resturants in the area that you selected. Each of the resturants has their own page and you can see what’s on the menu, location and any other relevant information. If you like the sound of it simply click on the button and they will do the table booking for you.

What We Think
Toptable is continually in development which is what we love about the site. They include customer reviews of other peoples experiences so you are not just booking cold so to speak, and as many resturants are now offering special deals you can even get alerts when they list a new deal which we thought was brilliant (especially when money is a little tight!!!).

If you are looking for somewhere different to dine out this weekend we’d suggest you visit Toptable, it’s a well organised website with lots of features. Whats more if you are a resturant owner it’s free to register your business and you could get some extra bookings.

It’s not often that we are asked to review a website that offers a truly invaluable service for the modern world but we think we’ve found one. Losemynumber has been set up to provide safe and secure communications for anyone who wants to give out a phone number but may need to cut off contact if things don’t work out.

About The Website
The concept behind Losemynumber is a very simple and effective way to hide your mobile or landline number behind a non geographic number.

This means that you can give out a telephone number to someone you meet (either in a bar or through a dating site) and should the person turn out to be not what you expected then you can always switch off the number breaking contact with them. Using the site is really easy – you simply register your landline or mobile number and they will give you a non geographic telephone number that you can give out. If at any stage you want to get rid of the number simply click on the Losemynumber button.

What We Think
With millions of people using online dating sites these days it’s very important to be safe. Giving out a non geographic number means that you can always keep a person at arms length until you really know them. We’d recommend anyone who uses online dating sites or wants to give out their number to someone they dont really know to give losemynumber a try. It’s safe, it’s secure and gives great piece of mind.

Visit Losemynumber for more information about dating safety and to get your free number.

Yes, here at What’s Good On The Web we use our Twitter feed to update our friends on the latest reviews and good websites but that’s about as far as it goes. If you’ve developed your Twitter account into being one of the main points of contact for your business then you need to look at the best way of managing it in the future and thats where CoTweet comes along.

About The Site
Cotweet is a brand new site that helps companies use Twitter more efficiently. The basic concept is that it allows multiple people to communicate through corporate Twitter accounts and stay in sync with each other. This means that your customers only need to follow one Twitter account instead of multiples (development, support, management etc) – your business therefore stays on message and it helps avoid duplication of effort and resources.

What We Think
We’ve not had much chance to use the Cotweet service just yet but we think it is a cracking idea – we’d suggest that any business which is looking at using Twitter as a key communications medium signs up to this service as we’d definitely recommend it. Its a really good idea and the site is very easy to use. It’s only in Beta at the moment but we think it is going to catch on soon. We’ve added it to our top rated sites and we think you should to.
