Struggling to find the right baby gift?

Every time another friend has a baby we struggle to get a present. We’ve given away everything from picture frames to cuddly toys so when we were told about Littlelilypad at WhatsGoodOnTheWeb we thought it would be worthwhile giving it a quick website review …. especially as one of us is currently hunting for that elusive first birthday gift.

About The Site
Littlelilypad has been set up by a mother who has faced the problem of trying to find something unique as a present for her friends. It’s not the type of site that sells any old thing, but rather gifts that are slightly different. These can include everything from personalised canvases to musical bears.

The structure of the site means that it is very easy to navigate around with different sections including gifts for newborns, for boys and for girls as well as a neat little area with gift ideas for parents.

What We Think
Because the site lists gifts that are slightly more unique there is not a massive range but this is actually a benefit because it means that a user does not waste time looking at rubbish. They have selected the range carefully and we think that this will attract quite a few customers.

Overall the site is well laid out and easy to use. We’re pretty sure that the range will continue to grow so there will be very little chance of just buying the same gift all the time. We’d recommend anyone who is looking for a unique baby gift to visit Littlelilypad.

Friday Fun: Annoy the office

The World Cup is over for another four years but we now hear that South Africa wants to host the Olympics as they did such a great job. That’s why when we stumbled across this site we thought we had to give it a quick website review.

Not really a website this is a quick online game for all those football fans with an evil streak – http://bartbonte.com/vuvuzela/ – give it a go and see how long your office can last – we managed about ten seconds before someone threw something across the office.

We hope you enjoy the What’s Good On The Web Reviews – please let us know if you have any other sites that you want us to tell our readers about.

Compare Online Prices

For many of us shopping on the Internet is all about looking for a bargain but one of the biggest problems is finding which sites really do offer the right deal. WhatsGoodOnTheWeb was recently approached by astuteshopping.com, an online shopping comparison site, to see if we would do a review of their site.

Having taken a bit of time looking at the site we thought it was good enough to include a website review of it. It’s not the prettiest of sites, but the comparison function works very well and allows you to search for the product you want, it then lists the product and tells you which supplier it can be purchased from. They obviously generate an income from anyone who clicks on the links but they are quite selective who they put on the site and as they say “we don’t list any Tom, Dick or Harry” which does give us quite a bit of confidence in what they do.

To test the search engine on astuteshopping we searched for a “Dualit Kettle” – the results came back very quickly and we were able to refine our search based on price, popularity etc or select from the large list of stockists displayed. We then clicked on the ones we were most interested in and then review those selections on one page.

We were also able to search on each of the individual companies that www.astuteshopping.com  works with and in addition the site has a page for each company that tells you if there are any offers or discounts that may be available. This is a very useful function and can give you some quite considerable discounts. Unfortunately for our search there were none.

We’ve given www.astuteshopping.com  a thumbs up as we like the search engine that allows you to compare prices and it is a well structured site. We’d like to see the site developed a little bit more to make it look nicer (Yes we know that WhatsGoodOnTheWeb needs work to !!!) but all in all a very efficient and useful site.

Bag an exclusive offer with group buying

www.groupon.co.uk is an established site that has finally come to the UK. It’s only available for London residents at the moment so we will do a more in depth review in the future.

It uses the power of cooperative buying to give you great deals. In the USA the site is very well established with consumers saving thousands on everything from days out to dinners and spa treatments. All you do is simply enter your interest in an offer and if a certain number of people also take up the offer you all get the discount. The aim of the site is to offer something that is unique not just a bog standard offer.

Unfortunately the site is currently only of any use if you are in London or visiting but we are sure over the next few months that it will extend to other towns and cities. We will do a more in depth review when the site starts offering things for more UK towns and cities.
